Africa is an interesting place. Normal checks and balances that we take for
granted in the West often do not exist. If they do exist, they have probably been broke for years. Scams and counterfeit products seem to abound. Documents like drivers licenses and diplomas are counterfeited. People misrepresent themselves, claiming to
be who they are not.
In neighboring Kenya, a man was charged for pretending to be a police officer. What is so astonishing
is the level and duration of this man's chirade; he successfully posed as an
assistant police commissioner for five years in Kenya's Rift Valley province.
During this time, he reportedly hired and fired several police officers.
We observers can laugh in disbelief of such a poser and the ineptitude of the police authorities. However, but
there is a lesson here for all of us.
Are we posing to be someone we are not?
Are you faking that all his great and harmonious in your family life?
Are you faking an act of piousness and spiritual maturity when there is really a major sin you need to deal with?
I hope we can all answer these with an honest,
"No." But let's be honest about how we portray ourselves to others.
